Ronaldo Calonje, M.D. is the Founder, President, CEO, Owner, Medical Director and Sports Medicine Specialist Physician at South Florida Sports Medicine and Primary Care in Coral Springs, Florida.
Dr. Calonje has served as Medical Director of South Florida Sports Medicine and Primary Care since 2011.
He provides a variety of services to patients at this facility, including Physical Exams and Sports Medicine, along with diagnosis and treatment for chronic conditions, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol. His Sports Medicine practice ranges from weekend warriors to top professionals including Elite Ballet Dancers and Olympians and everyone in between.
After graduating from Belen Jesuit Prep in Miami, he attended MDC and studied Honors Psychology. He earned a Scholarship and studied Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami in Coral Gables. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Sciences (Athletic Training) while making the Dean's List @ FIU in Miami. Dr. Calonje attended Medical School at the Autonomous School of Medical Sciences in Costa Rica. He then completed a Residency in Family Medicine and obtained Fellowship training in Sports Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.
Since he began practicing Sports Medicine in 2002, Dr. Calonje has covered many Events, including Amateur and Golden Gloves Boxing, Professional Boxing, Muay-Thai Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts, WNBA Basketball for the Chicago Sky, as well as Medical Staff and Administrative coverage for the Chicago Marathon and Nike Human Race 10K, Special Olympics, University of Miami Athletics and many more. He has conducted Pre-Participation Physicals for Arena Football's Chicago Rush, American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves and Notre Dame Prep School in Illinois.
He has been a Team Physician for University of Illinois-Chicago Soccer and Volleyball, as well as for Florida State University Athletics, and for the last 10 years at Florida International University (F.I.U.) Athletics in Miami.
Dr. Calonje was born in Managua, Nicaragua. His father Ronaldo J. Calonje was a Pediatrician who practiced for 20 years in Mexico and Nicaragua and 20 years in Miami, Florida. His brother German Calonje is an OB/GYN currently practicing Urogynecology at Amita Health / St. Alexius Medical Center in Illinois.
Dr. Calonje is Bilingual and speaks both English and Spanish fluently.
